At 24 hours old, it is beginning to be apparent which puppies have a roan coat. The paw pads and around the nose begin to turn brown.
At 4 weeks, the first coat is still white. Underneath the coat, the skin continues to darken.
At 4 months of age. the undercoat has completely darkened. This puppy has heavy roaning.
Tan points are apparent on brown areas at birth. They do not appear on the roan areas of the coat until later.
By 6 weeks, tan points begin emerging on roan areas.
