Preparing for your new puppy begins long before she is welcomed into your home. Things to think about and consider:
Where will puppy sleep?
Who should I use for a vet?
Puppy proofing your home.
What will puppy need when he arrives home?
Where will puppy sleep?
Deciding where and how your puppy should sleep is something to consider before she comes home. We recommend crate training, especially while you are potty training. Dogs naturally enjoy a "den" like setting. A quiet room or corner is ideal. The crate should be somewhere puppy can go to relax and unwind, away from the noise of a busy home.
Who should I use for a vet?
Finding a vet you trust is important. I highly recommend asking friends or family for their experiences with local vets. If possible, visit or call your preferred clinic before puppy arrives home. Staff should be knowledgeable and kind. The office should feel clean and welcoming.
Puppy Proofing Your Home.
There is a lot to consider when making your home safe for your new puppy. Get down to puppy eye level to see what your puppy may be able to reach. Power cords should not be accessible for chewing. Cleaning chemicals should be behind child-locked cupboards. Certain house plants can pose a hazard to your puppy, including certain types of lilies, ivy, jade, dumb cane, elephant ear, and ZZ plant. Please Google the toxicity of any plants (both indoor and outdoor) that may be within reach of your puppy.
